My Everchanging Garden

Gardening That Grows With Me

Winter Garden Spritz aka Elderflower Spritz

I originally planned this cocktail for a garden party in the middle of winter with friends. However, I return to it often as an nice, light cocktail on the patio or in the evening when I want something not to alcohol-forward.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ½ oz elderflower liqueur (St-Germain)
  • 1 ¼ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ¾ oz gin
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • 2-3 oz sparkling water or soda

For a slightly stronger, more festive version, substitute Prosecco for the sparkling water.

METHOD

Build over ice in a tall, decorative glass. Top with sparkling water or soda and stir gently.

Garnish with a slice of lemon and, optionally, a sprig of thyme.

Make Ahead for 8

This drink can be partially made ahead, making it ideal for entertaining. Mix the base in advance and refrigerate until ready to serve. Add the sparkling water or Prosecco just before serving so the drink stays bubbly.

MIX THE BASE:

  • 1½ cups elderflower liqueur (12 oz)
  • 1¼ cups fresh lemon juice (10 oz)
  • ¾ cup gin (6 oz)
  • ½ cup simple syrup (4 oz)

Stir together and chill.

TO SERVE:

Fill a tall decorative glass with ice. Add 4 oz of the chilled cocktail base.

Top with 2-3 oz of sparkling water, soda or Prosecco and stir gently.

Garnish with a slice of lemon and, optionally, a sprig of thyme.
