Vanilla Nutmeg Sauce

“This sauce goes well with Mom’s Apple Cake and with Apple Dumplings. ”

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • pinch salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • nutmeg to taste
DIRECTIONS
  1. Mix sugar, flour and salt in small saucepan.
  2. Add boiling water. Cook on low for 5 minutes until thickened.
  3. Melt in butter.
  4. Remove from heat, add vanilla and nutmeg.
  5. Serve warm over apple cake, apple dumplings or similar savoury dessert.

Yield: 1 1/2 cups
