My Everchanging Garden

Gardening That Grows With Me

Hawthorn Grove Bursting

The Hawthorns are approaching full bloom, just in time for the long weekend! This is my favourite period in the back Woodland garden. The blooms only last about a week or so, but the fragrance is unbelievable.

The hawthorns in this area were part of a scrub bush between two farms when our area was developed. When we moved in they were completely covered in grape vine. Three years of constant cutting and digging and we finally beat the grapevine, and now these trees have really flourished. The hardest part is pruning them back a bit to walk under as the thorns can be a real menace.
