The feathered kind, not the drinking kind. Now that our landscape is maturing, we are seeing an increase in the amount and variety of wild life directly in our back yard. While we could often hear Wild Turkey calls, this has been the first year we have seen them wondering our lawn.
The turkey is one of only two native domesticated birds. The Muscovy Duck is the other. We have seen these specimens quite a few times, although never up close. It is surprising how quickly they move even when just foraging out in the open. The male Wild Turkey provides no parental care. When the eggs hatch, the chicks follow the female so we believe our family consists of a female wild turkey and her offspring.
