After a very warm start, then some much needed spring rains, our weather is expected to turn a bit colder over the next two days. Nighttime temperatures are predicted to drop to just above freezing and while I do not expect frost given the amount of moisture in the soil from our all day rain, I don’t want to take a chance that my tiny new spinach and lettuce seedlings will freeze.
Here are my seedlings, covered with pots and then covered with a layer of heavy plastic which was left over from our winter ice rink. Even if we do not get frost, this covering will help keep a bit of heat in the soil which can’t hurt.
